Governor - 1970, filed from Vietnam, received 119,177 votes while serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees. * DFL candidate for Railroad & Warehouse Commission 1966; campaigned with Gov. Rolvaag; candidate for Secretary of State - 1998, 75,156 votes; 2006, 75,938. * Elected Minneapolis DFL Alderman - 1963-1965. * 41 years in government service (15 years for Minneapolis; 26 years federal government). * Past president of the Minneapolis Umpires Association — 1962. * Candidate for U.S. Senate in 1976, 1994, 1996, 2000, 2002 and 2008. * Metropolitan State University - B.A. degree, Spring, 1976, Public Administration. * Dunwoody Industrial Institute - majored in Surveying and Highway Construction - 1948-1950. * Brown Electronics - Radio Announcing and Engineering - 1955-1957. * Appointed Selective Service Registrar - 1974. * Veteran - enlisted 1969 in the U.S. Navy Seabees for 21/2 years; served in South Vietnam. Enlisted in the U.S.Army for 3 years, 1950. Selected “Outstanding Soldier in Europe”.
